Through the SUNY New Paltz summer abroad in Urbino, there were not many structured excursions. As a result, my friends and I took it upon ourselves to create our own excursions. We went to see the Duomo in Florence, and Venice on our own. Also, Urbino is located near two very popular ocean-front club scenes-Riccione and Rimini. A few of the weekends, I hitched rides with my new Italian friends and visited these beautiful beaches.

On campus, I lived in a suite with three other Italian-speaking girls who didn't speak any English. I quickly learned that the only way to get over this fear of embarrassment was to just not worry if I make a mistake with the language. In broken Italian, I introduced myself, explained why I was there and where I was from. Thankfully, all three girls were willing to laugh along with my mistakes and teach me as much as they could with the casual aid of Google Translate. I noticed that while it might be easy for me to understand what they are saying or asking, it is usually a lot more difficult to come up with a response. Eventually, I got over this and met their friends and we all got together and had a nice homemade Italian feast:

This summer, I went on my first trip to Europe. Not only was it my first time in Europe, but it was my first completely independent experience. I paid for it on my own and traveled solo. The trip was a summer session of Study Abroad through SUNY New Paltz. The university I attended, the University of Urbino, was located in Urbino, Italy, a small rural town in Northern Italy. Prior to the trip, I had taken two semesters of Italian and would be studying Elementry Three Italian. My flight there was full of excitement and no sleep. My first time flying over the Swiss Alps:
